Pleasant Valley Sunday

When I started getting into Mediumship, my sole purpose was to see if it was real. I do believe it is real, but there are a lot of phonies. When I practice with other Mediums they often dismiss me because I don’t do readings in the way that they do. They give me a long list of descriptions about the person they say they are connecting with. I take notes and sometimes it can be pages of descriptions. There are so many that of course some of them make sense, but not enough to say, “Yes! That is definitely (insert name here).” When someone does a reading they need to tell you something relevant that no one would know, not “Your loved one has white hair , glasses and when they crossed over their (insert ailment here) is gone. They love you very much and they watch over you.” I also get a lot of things from Mediums practicing about Grandmothers who love to cook. Surprisingly none of mine did. Grandpas who were in the military. Nope, none of mine either. Not every Grandma loved to cook and not every Grandpa was in the military.

My short readings that provide key words that point directly to their loved ones and sometimes songs that point directly to what their loved ones would say, or point to who they were are discounted. This is what is so frustrating about entering this world. Most Mediums have had professional training. I am always asked if I have had any. When I say I haven’t, then they tell me I need some. I don’t want to read like them if it is just a long list of descriptions and a guessing game. I just want to deliver exactly what I hear and that is it.

If you have ever had a loved one who has passed over “visit” you in a dream, you would know it’s pretty quick. They send their love in the only way they know how and might send a quick message or the message might just be how much they love you, but they do it in a clever way. I think it takes a lot of energy for them to do so. I think when they work through a Medium, they can’t sit and have full on conversations with them. And, if they are trying to connect with you, why would they just sit and talk about the description of who they were and what they look like and nothing else? I get that that is needed so that you know who they are, but once you realize, the guessing game shouldn’t continue. Sometimes I do a practice reading with a Medium and the other Medium spends so much time describing my loved one that there never ends up being a message. It is all about them guessing who it is and wanting kudos for getting it right. The guessing game feels more about them needing a confidence boost and less about me connecting to my loved one. It’s not fun. Especially when I just want to hear what my loved one has to say and not that they were dependable or kind to everyone. I already know that!

I’ll give you an example taken from my journal of one of the worst experiences I have had with another Medium during practice.

May 22, 2025

I had a horrible session in the evening. She was apparently in a hurry and I asked if she wanted to go first and she said, “No you go first.” She then told me she had already heard my introduction and it was wonderful and said some BS about all my Clairs and then said, “Wink, wink.” She meant she didn’t want to hear my introduction at all. I explained quickly anyway that I don’t receive messages the same way as others and I usually get lyrics and key words that point to their loved one. She was irritated I did an introduction. I then tried to connect, but she talked the whole time, and I even heard her husband in the background talking to her. Surprisingly, with all of the interruptions and the rushed feelings, I got the name Tom, whom she said was a very dear friend that had passed away. I got lyrics from the song “Pleasant Valley Sunday” by the Monkees. She said that was one of her all time favorite songs. I got specific lyrics, “I need a change of scenery” to which she said she had just been saying those words that very day and the day before that, “she needed a change or scenery and she wanted to move.” I then got the lyric, “And the kids just don’t understand.” She laughed in amazement and said, “Yes, that makes sense,” but never told me why. She seemed in such a hurry, and I wasn’t really getting anything else so I said, “I think I’ll end my turn now.” She got irritated with me and told me to keep going. So I kept going and it was about 30 seconds of silence when she said, “You keep going, I am going to start connecting.” She started saying all these weird things, sometimes in a different language that sounded satanic. I thought she was American, but I don’t know. She asked if she could have the lights off and I said that was fine. She shut the lights off, it went dark and then suddenly there was a blood red glow coming from her side. I stopped what I was doing and she began to tell me a whole lot of nonsense about people who were supposedly there for me. Absolutely nothing made sense. The more I told her it didn’t, the angrier she became. She told me she ate too much, she is usually very good and she’s been doing readings for ten years. She then told me I needed to try again, but with my eyes open. I told her I just don’t do it that way, but she insisted, so I tried. After a minute or two, I said I think I lost the communicator, I am just not getting anything. That is when she started angrily telling me that spirit never goes away and spirit never stops communicating. I tried to explain that I was new at this and that is when she lost it. She started ranting about how spirit never stops communicating and I have to keep my eyes open to see them and I need to be looking up because that is where they are! Then she said, “I have to go, I have another session!” She closed the zoom link in the same way you might angrily hang up on someone. It was the strangest experience I have had so far and I wondered if she was drunk or something. It seemed like what really set her off was when she found out that I was new and had given her somewhat specific messages (albeit short) and she, after ten years of practice, gave me a whole bunch of nothing.
