One of my favorite practice readings was with a woman who had lost her seven year old son and her Dad. When I started the reading, I kept seeing the outline of a fish that I believed to be from the movie Finding Nemo. I saw sand and an ocean and other things. I wasn’t sure if these visions were really for her because the woman had talked about the ocean in relation to my loved one when she practiced on me, so I said, “I don’t know if this is right because you were talking about the ocean, but I feel like I am getting the fish from that movie with Dory (I couldn’t remember the name of the movie). She instantly knew what I was talking about and laughed a little and said, “Yes.” She told me after the reading that she always says, “Just keep swimming” to her kids and even though they are grown up now, she had actually just said that the day before. This was her favorite quote from Finding Nemo. I got “sandpaper” and “woodworking” and she said those didn’t mean anything to her, but she would think about it.
I started hearing, “Because, because, because, because, because, because of the wonderful things he does,” from the song “We’re Off to See the Wizard” by Judy Garland from the movie, The Wizard of Oz and I pictured the four characters skipping down the yellow brick road. This made her laugh again and she said, “My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz!” I got “greenery” and “race car” and she said those pointed in the direction of her son and her Dad. She told me green was her son’s favorite color, and I forgot what race care meant. I got “Don’t give up” and she said her Dad had that phrase on a picture frame on his mantle. I asked if they wanted to give me one more lyric or message and I heard, “Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas. That made us both laugh so hard. She said that was a reference to her watching Kung Fu Panda with her son.
When I had given my introduction, I told her that I will get a few words and maybe some song lyrics. She said at that moment she thought, “I don’t know music, how are they going to give me lyrics?” She thought it was so neat that they came through with lyrics and messages that she would know from movies that she had watched. It was such a fun and joyful reading. What I really liked about the reading was the way it felt as if her Dad and her son were there together, joking around and sending lyrics to see if they could make her laugh, and she did! She said at the end of our reading that she thought I had a beautiful approach. Part of her official feedback was, “Thank you for connecting with my Dad and son. I loved how you brought them through in such a fun way. I keep laughing when I think of them bringing through Nemo/Dory and The Wizard of Oz. I loved that you made the session so much fun! Well done!” I was just thrilled to give someone a good, happy reading. That’s all I want, to make people feel better. I just hope I can continue to do so.
